If you haven’t heard already Zac Brown, Mumford & Sons, Elton John, Mavis Staples, T-Bone Burnett and Alabama Shakes lead vocalist Brittany Howard are going to be doing a special tribute to Levon Helm at this Sundays Grammy Awards (thanks Twang Nation for informing me).
I imagine they will play “The Weight” somewhere in there along with “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” and maybe even “Up On Cripple Creek.”
But if I could make one request, I would make it a tune from his solo album Electric Dirt called “When I Go Away.”
Press play on the video below, close your eyes listen closely to the words and then continue reading below the video when its over.
How cool is that? I don’t know about you but it makes me feel a little better about the whole death thing.
Levon is trying to tell us something here. This tune needs to be blasted from loudspeakers, from every tower, every satellite because I think there are a lot people out there could use a message like this. A little less fear in this world could go a long way.
We can only hope that we are as prepared for the afterlife as Levon.
What do you think?
